The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas: Book Review

The Spanish Love Deception Rating: 4/5

The Spanish Love Deception Synopsis: Catalina Martin is in an emergency. A huge one at that. Her sister is getting married incredibly soon and her ex, you know the one that everyone knows and feels bad for her about, is the best man and he just got engaged. She can’t show up at home in Spain alone. When her work nemesis, Aaron Blackford, offers himself up as an option for her date, she instantly rejects it. There’s no way that they could pretend in front of her family that they’re a couple. Add on the pressures of work and the gooey feeling Catalina has with Aaron’s ocean-blue eyes on her, maybe they could do it. Perhaps Aaron is perfect for her Spanish love deception.

Review:

This is a cute book. It’s a slow burn romance with enemies-to-lovers, workplace relationships, one bed situations, and so much more. It took me about 2 days to finish it because once you get to the 20-25% range it takes off with the plot and you can’t put it down!!

The beginning of the book is something to get through. Catalina is very much in her own head and can come off as immature. I honestly didn’t really understand the issue between the two main characters to make them hate each other. It makes some sense at the end, but I felt like Catalina should have addressed her own role in it more. I understand why she didn’t though.

There’s a lot put into this novel as well (and there should be for nearly 500 pages of reading!). Some of the plot lines were either conveniently solved or never addressed again. I did enjoy all of the tangents and the turns thrown in the novel! I wish there had been a bit more time dedicated to the side plots than describing Aaron’s ocean-blue eyes–you can play a drinking game with this phrase! But then again if Aaron was in front of me I’d probably be the same way so🤷🏻‍♀️.

Overall it was a highly enjoyable read. There was good character development, the main focus was on the romance, there was enough build-up with everything, and I loved the ending. It was a slight reversal of the typical romance novel and I was here for it!! The end seriously made the book really good for me. And the epilogue was just perfect enough to end the book but not ruin the book.

Long Story Short

Do I recommend this book? Yes! It’s a bunch of fun to read and it’s especially great because it comes from a fellow bookstagrammer (thebibliotheque). Plus it’s on Kindle Unlimited, which is a nice perk if you have it!

What were your thoughts on The Spanish Love Deception? Do you want an Aaron now as well? What did you think!?!

All opinions are of my own are not reflective of anyone else. I buy/loan all of the books I review unless specified and I only give my 100% true opinion on them.

If you liked this novel I would highly recommend trying The Dating Plan by Sara Desai! There’s pining, a fake relationship, second-chance romance, super involved family, hockey! It’s such a gem of a book! Read my full review of it here.
